Opportunities in STEM

STEM flights

STEM Flights is a national nonprofit organization that provides free flight experiences for middle and high school students. Our program pairs STEM with the world of aviation and gives students a front row seat to engaging, hands-on learning.  Students will have the opportunity to see their community and hometown from the sky while also learning about key STEM components in the cockpit from their Pilot Mentor.  We have pilots available in your area ready to take flight and give students the opportunity of a lifetime! As an educator myself, I know the value of expanding the walls of the classroom by allowing students to connect curriculum to real world experiences and how powerful it can be.

Y-WE Tech

In Y-WE Tech, young women* and nonbinary youth ages 13–18 explore ways to use technology tools for learning, career success, self-expression, social change and the history of women and femmes in technology. Within an intergenerational community of diverse youth and adult femme mentors, we will get hands-on with hardware and software, spend time talking about how the COVID-19 vaccine was developed and the women who helped develop it, and practice different methods of project management and explore ways that we can keep growing creativity through technology using our 3D Printer Wall-E. In Y-WE Tech, we will develop college and career readiness (while being critical about what that means), grow as leaders and discover ways we can use technology to make a difference in our world.
