SPIN COVID-19 Protocols

March 2022

“Nonprofits and community-based organizations (CBOs), religious and faith-based organizations (FBOs), and other organizations may operate at full capacity and regular hours, with no physical distancing requirements. All organizations are required to follow King County and state mask guidance.

Take these actions to help manage the spread of coronavirus and keep each other safe.

The best protection is to get vaccinated. Fully vaccinated people can now do more things safely and are helping reduce COVID-19 in the community.

Wearing a mask in high-risk settings (such as crowded places) helps to protect everyone. It’s especially important to protect people that can’t get the full protection from the vaccine, such as young children and people with medical conditions who are less able to fight the virus.

Get tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who tests positive.

Keep activities small and outdoors if people who are unvaccinated will participate. The virus spreads easily indoors, so businesses and organizations can reduce the virus in the air by having good air flow indoors and using air filters.”

October 2021

Effective October 25 2021, people ages 12 and older will be required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result to enter certain indoor and outdoor events and establishments in King County. You can read more about the King county vaccine mandate here.

This means that SPIN students and mentors will need to bring proof of vaccination or a negative test result to all future SPIN events.

What can be used as proof of vaccination?

  • CDC vaccination card or photo of vaccine card.

  • Documented proof of vaccination from medical record or vaccine provider.

  • Printed certificate or QR code (available at the end of September) from MyIRMobile.com.

    • What is MyIR Mobile?

      • MyIR Mobile is an internet-based service that gives people access to their official Washington state vaccination records. You can set up an account at www.MyIRMobile.com.

  • You do not need to show identification with proof of vaccination.

Options for peole who are unvaccinated or unable to prove vaccine status:

  • People who are unvaccinated or cannot prove vaccination status will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test from a testing provider in the last 72 hours.

  • For COVID-19 testing locations and resources, visit kingcounty.gov/covid/sites.

We are committed to working with our families, students, and mentors to welcome back all students while continuing to prioritize the health of our communities. SPIN will be following in accordance with the Seattle Public Schools Guidelines for Returning to In-Person Learning which can be found here.

At SPIN we are committed to keeping our students, families, and mentors safe. You can help us by keeping yourself or your student home when they have a known exposure to someone with COVID-19, or new symptoms that are not caused by another condition.

Symptoms of COVID-19 may include:

  • Fever or chills

  • Cough

  • Fatigue

  • Headache

  • Sore throat

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Congestion or runny nose

  • Diarrhea

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Cleaning: Classrooms and common spaces or materials and equipment will be cleaned and disinfected each day and between uses.

Health-Screening: SPIN will encourage families to keep students home when they have been exposed to COVID-19, have symptoms of COVID-19, or are sick with other illnesses. Daily health screenings will not be used for students, mentors, and staff and are no longer required by DOH.

Contact Tracing: If there is a positive COVID-19 case we will notify close contacts immediately while maintaining privacy.

The Washington Department of Health currently defines a close contact as an individual who was within six feet of a person with COVID-19 for at least 15 total minutes over a 24-hour period during the period of time when the person with COVID-19 was infectious.

DOH’s definition of a close contact excludes students in an indoor classroom who were at least three feet away from an infected student when: (a) both students were wearing face coverings/masks and (b) other prevention strategies were in place.

Masks: Universal and correct use of cloth face coverings or masks helps prevent the spread of COVID-19 and is still required for all SPIN staff, students, mentors, volunteers, and visitors for 2021-22. We will have extra masks on hand for anyone who may need them.

  • Regardless of vaccination status, masks will continue to be worn.

Mask Exceptions: Students, staff, mentors, and visitors may remove their masks briefly for eating and drinking. For program photos, students may briefly remove their mask for individual photo-taking (inside or outside) and group photos (outside only).

Hand washing: Hand washing is important to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Students, mentors, and staff should wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available. Hand washing will be encouraged throughout the day, especially when students are changing classrooms, prior to eating, and after playing outside or using the restroom.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will continue to be provided for all SPIN students, mentors, and staff.

  • Students will be provided with individualized equipment and materials as necessary
