What is SPIN Fellows?

SPIN Fellows supports SPIN Forward graduates in 11th & 12th grade in achieving their college and/or career goals.

SPIN Fellows empowers SPIN Girls with individualized support and resources, building on the trusted relationships they have fostered with their fellow SPIN Forward, mentors, & SPIN staff members. The highly individualized nature of this program makes it unique among other college & career preparation programs.

Students who graduate from SPIN Forward are invited to apply for SPIN Fellows in the Spring of their 10th grade year. 10 Fellows are accepted based on their commitment to SPIN Forward and their interest in pursuing a STEM career.

The goal of SPIN Fellows is to empower SPIN students to feel confident in pursuing STEM college majors & careers. The vision is to grow a strong alumni community, supported by SPIN Girls mentors, staff, and other alumni. SPIN Fellows breaks down the barriers that girls* of color face when exploring and pursuing STEM careers and shapes a more inclusive future.

*Including cis girls, trans youth, gender queer youth, gender non-conforming and/or non-binary youth who experience(d) girlhood as a part of their journey.

HOW LONG ARE EVENTS?

Our in-person meetups run four hours, with 11th graders in the morning, a shared lunch, and seniors in the afternoon.

We learned in response to COVID-19, to be prepared to transition our events to a virtual setting when necessary. In this setting, events are only two hours long to avoid Zoom burnout.

**Students must finish the program year in order to earn that year’s funds.

Please let the SPIN team know if there are resources that a student is in need of. We may be able to help with those needs or assist in finding support. We are here to help.
